When the male powers no longer know what to do, or no longer dare to go on, Durga appears as the archetype of feminine power that rescues creatures from danger and keeps disaster in check. She is depicted riding a tiger with countless arms, in which she holds the weapons of the male gods.

Her sound symbol is "hrīm", so her basic mantra is:
Oṃ hrīṃ Durgāyai namaḥ |

The verse dedicated to her:

ॐ सर्वस्वरूपे सर्वेशे सर्वशक्तिसमन्विते ।
भयेभ्यस्त्राहि नो देवि दुर्गे देवि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥

Oṃ sarva-svarūpe sarveśe
sarva-śakti-samanvite |
bhayebhyas trāhi no devi
durgā-devi namo 'stu te ||

Om, oh Goddess Durgā, everything is your form, you who rule over all, accompanied by all powers, oh Goddess, protect us from danger, we bow to you ||
