Lakshmi is the archetype of enchanting beauty, and beauty naturally comes with prosperity and happiness. That's why Lakshmi is also the widely beloved goddess of fortune.
She is depicted sitting or standing on a lotus with 4 hands. Usually with a lotus in one hand, distributing riches with another, with a third in the gesture "fear not" (Abhaya-Mudrā) and the fourth with the gesture of granting boons. Behind her, a pair of white elephants is often depicted, pouring cooling water.
Lakshmi's sound symbol is "śrīm", so the basic mantra is:
ॐ श्रीं लक्ष्म्यै नमः॥
Oṃ śrīṃ Lakṣmyai namaḥ ||
Om, bow to the fortune-granting Lakshmī.
Her dedicated verse:
नमस्तेऽतु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते।
